Drive to Bahir Dar on the way visit the Debre Libanos monastery and the Portuguese bridge. Enjoy the precipitous landscape of the Blue Nile gorge, a spectacular cliff that it is extended nearly 400 km and reaches depths up to 1,500 m, and admire the endless teff crops. BAHIR DAR

City tour in Bahir Dar starting with a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit the monasteries located at the Zege Peninsula, Kibran Gabriel (not allowed for women), Ura KidaneMihret and the source of the Blue Nile River. In the afternoon, drive out to the Blue Nile Falls for a short hike in the area. Late afternoon, visit Haile Selassie’s Palace (with the chance to do the route by bike), located up on a hill where you can see the Blue Nile river to the Lake Tana and the whole city.

BAHIR DAR - GONDAR (183 km)

Early in the morning visit the local market of Bahir Dar before driving to Gondar. The four-hours drive will take you through rural villages, offering a wonderful insight into the Amhara culture. After lunch, explore the sites of Gondar, including a visit to the 17th Century Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings. Afterwards, visit Fasilides’ pool, still used nowadays during the Timkat celebration (the Ethiopian Orthodox Epiphany on the 19th January), and the Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia full of staring angels.

Drive to Sankabar, the gateway to the Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and enjoy some light hiking in the afternoon in the park with stunning views. Walia Ibex if lucky and Gelada Baboons are routinely spotted and late afternoon.

Start your journey by car early in the morning towards Arba Minch. On the way, you will be able to see different historical places such as Melka Kunture, a stone-age archeological site; Adadi Mariam, a 12th century rock-hewn church and Tiya, a stelae from the 12th century considered as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Before reaching Arba Minch, visit the Dorze Village, known for their beehive-shaped bamboo houses.

JINKA - MAGO NATIONAL PARK

Spend the day exploring the Mago National Park on a game drive to spot some of the animal species encountered inside the park and the Mursi tribes. This area is mainly savannah, surrounded also by rivers and riverine forests. Areas along the lower Omo (within the park) are populated with a rich diversity of ethnic groups, including the Aari, Banna, Bongoso, Hamer, Karo, Kwegu, Male and Mursi peoples. The park's perhaps best known attraction are the Mursi, known for piercing their lips and inserting disks made of clay. Drive back to Jinka for overnight.

JINKA -TURMI

A long drive through a typical dry landscape brings you to the distant town of Turmi visiting the Dimeka market before lunch. In the afternoon, visit around the Turmi village and the market and if lucky, you will see the bull jump and their traditional dance at the night in one of the villages. The day ends at the town of Turmi on the banks of the Keske.

TURMI - KONSO

In the morning drive to visit Omorate, where you will take a boat trip across the Omo River to meet the Dasenech people, known for their body painting, scarification and wigs made from bottle tops and back to Turmi for lunch, continue to drive to Konso via Key Afar and visit the popular market where the Benna and Tsemai tribes trade goods. The Konso highland tribe are known for the ancient and intricate terraces that encircle their well-planned villages and also for their wooden statues, known as wakas, erected in honor of dead heroes. Pass by the 55 km stonewalled terraces and fortified settlements known as the “natural New York Village”, named after the tall sand formations resembling skyscrapers, declared as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

KONSO - LANGANO

After breakfast drive to the Great Rift Valley Lakes for overnight at one of the lake side resorts where you can relax after the long tour with a bath at the only lake suitable for swimming. On the way, stop in Awassa, where you can visit the fish market and the surroundings in order to witness the ancient fishing lifestyles in a stunning area full of different bird and primates species.

In the morning, stop by the Abiatta-Shalla National Park, where you can spot big groups of flamingos and other bird species. Proceed driving to Addis Ababa via Ziway for lunch. In the evening, farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant with local dancers and musicians representing some of the country’s ethnic groups.
